Mezzo Soprano and Voice Teacher


Born in Scotland, Annie completed her studies at the RNCM before becoming a young artist at the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg. She is known for her warm toned voice, vibrant stage presence and musical versatility.

She has sung principal roles with Scottish Opera, Opera North, Iford Opera, ENO Baylis, Mahogany Opera, Midwales Opera and Glyndebourne and Wexford Festivals. She was a member of the Glyndebourne Chorus where she covered various roles. Role debuts include Carmen for Scottish Opera and Donna in the world premiere of Skin Deep by Armando Iannucci/David Sawyer at Opera North. Annie has performed widely in Europe where notable credits include Mercedes in a new production of Carmen at the Opéra Comique directed by Adrian Noble and conducted by John Eliot Gardiner, Waltraute in Die Walküre and Amore/Valletto in L’Incoronazione di Poppea (dir. Sir David McVicar) at the Opéra National du Rhin and Siebel in Gounod’s Faust with John O’Brien at the Everyman theatre Cork. Other highlights have included a national tour with the Australian Chamber Orchestra concluding at the Sydney Opera House and Duruflé Requiem with the Orchestre Nationale de Paris. Concert performances include various programmes with the RPO and Dunedin Consort. Annie has been a regular member of the Monteverdi Choir since 2007. Annie was a member of the Choir at Westminster Abbey for the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla, the first time female singers were included at such an occasion. Recently, Annie has toured the major UK venues with Our Finest Hour, a programme of 1940s music with the BBC Big Band.

She is a long term collaborator with the RPO and the Irene Taylor Trust on the Lullaby Project, with whom Annie has recorded over 50 new compositions. Working with prisoners and refugees, this project gives parents in challenging circumstances the opportunity to create bespoke lullabies for their children.

Recordings include St Matthew Passion and Messiah, the latter winning a Gramophone Award. She has recorded a disc of songs by Nick Drake, Richard Hawley, JS Bach and others, with pianist and arranger Harry Sever.

Future plans include Berlioz and Brahms with John Eliot Gardiner,  as well as Bach and Handel under the baton of Dinis Sousa on a North American tour. She has concerts with the BBC Big Band and a further recording and recital programme with Harry Sever. Annie has upcoming performances of the Mozart Requiem and Handel's Messiah.

Annie has an extensive private teaching practice, successfully preparing students for music college, music scholarships and choristership auditions. Her pupils regularly achieve excellent results in ABRSM, LCM and Trinity Exams and she also works with young professionals. She holds positions at Trinity School (home of the world famous Trinity Boys Choir) and Croydon High School for Girls- GDST.

Committed to regular professional training, Annie recently completed her Vocal Health Education training with Dr Jenevora Williams, as well as taking Paul Farringdon’s course for professional voice teachers. Annie is currently studying for a qualification in Care for Children and Young People's mental health to complement her vocal pedagogy.
